This is a beautiful region with 250 miles of unspoilt coastline, enormous tidal estuaries, saltmarshes, wetlands, heathland, mudflats and ancient forests. There are picturesque towns, including Colchester, England’s oldest town (dating back to C5th BC), and of course the stunning university city of Cambridge. Medieval villages dot the countryside, whilst the coast boasts plenty of traditional seaside resorts. and many opportunities for bird watchers.

The fascinating history of this region is revealed in its Anglo-Saxon burial sites, Roman artefacts, grand stately homes, museums, magnificent churches and sumptuous gardens.

There are treats for foodies too with a great range of local specialities, from Essex ham to Norfolk turkeys, delicious jams to cereals and freshly caught fish from local trawlermen. Try out the wealth of restaurants and pubs, some of which are run by renowned ‘celebrity’ chefs.

There are also many bird sanctuaries, home to an enormous variety of resident and migrating birds and fowl.
