Yorkshire has long been a favourite destination for visitors, drawn by the huge open spaces, bustling towns, dramatic coastline and patchwork landscape. The Yorkshire Dales are world-famous for their stunning scenery, rolling valleys criss-crossed by dry stone walls, idyllic rural villages and bubbling rivers. Visitors can also enjoy the dramatic heather-blanketed North York Moors, dotted with historical houses and crumbling ruins and with a fabulous unspoilt coastline, whilst the Peak District boasts high moorland, softer hills, forested dales and hidden caves. Nature-lovers will relish the many nature reserves and birdwatching spots where many different species of seabirds and other wildlife can be observed.

Traditional seaside resorts include delightful Robin Hood’s Bay and Whitby, and there are many wilder, empty beaches to discover. The coast features some staggering cliff tops and quaint villages.

York is a charming mixture of medieval muddle, fascinating museums, ancient churches, craft shops and, of course, the beautiful Minster. Richmond, Ripon and the lovely spa town of Harrogate are also well worth a visit. Leeds has designer boutiques and an indoor market, and Sheffield huge shopping centres and independent fashion stores.

Yorkshire folk have always been proud of the quality of their local produce, and there is a great range of cuisine on offer across the region, from traditional pub grub to ethnic eateries.
